Gaining Blackhead Control

No matter how clear your face and skin can be, blackheads just seem to never go away. Most people ineffectively treat blackheads, which ends up making the problem worse. There is a correct way to control blackheads that will not require you to use expensive prescriptions or blackhead extractors.

Blackheads are caused by a combination by the same thing that causes whitehead acne problems. It's simply a result of oily skin, clogged pores and bacteria. The only difference between whiteheads and blackheads is that a think layer of skin does not develop over the clogged pore. When this thin layer of skin develops over the clogged hair follicle, the pore fills with puss. Those pores that are too large for the layer of skin to form becomes oxidized by air and the contents of the pore become discolored.

So blackhead control is a similar process to getting rid of any acne problem, but there are a few things you can do in addition to your normal regiment to get rid of blackheads and make sure they never come back. For one, you have to be sure you wash your face appropriately. Sounds obvious, but most people actually do more damage to their skin by using harsh soaps, scrubbing to hard, or washing to frequently. When you irritate the skin or cause it to become dry, your body naturally produces more oil to try to heal and repair the skin. As a result, the excess oil production causes the pores to become clogged and the problem to worsen.

Another solution you will want to consider adding is to use a Beta Hydroxy Acid topical once a day after you wash your face. BHA is a very effective chemical that will keep pores unclogged and remove bacteria - the two things that cause blackhead acne. Using a BHA moisturizer alone can significantly improve your blackhead problem. If you cannot find or don't want to pay for a BHA topical, you can use frozen tomato cubes. Tomatoes contain an acid substance that can be just as effective as BHA. When you freeze them and apply them to the problem area, you can almost treat you can almost instantly control your problem.

Before you try these strategies though, you want to be sure you are not doing anything inappropriately to invite the condition. Using old towels or bed sheets, for example, can easily and quickly transfer bacteria to the face. Change these after each use to ensure the things that touch your face aren't causing blackheads to appear.
